Monday

Today I didn't take any photos, so the above is a photo of Little Sis taken last week, wearing an Elmo robe.

The weather today was warm, sunny and in the low 70s. We spent most of the afternoon outside playing and riding in the wagon. Big Sis wanted the squirt bottle (she loves those). I gave her one, but then Little Sis wanted one. I found one for Little Sis. She's not strong enough to push the trigger to get water to squirt out, so instead I squirted some on her bare feet. She loved it and kept saying "Again!" and holding her foot up to be squirted.

Tonight in bed Big Sis and I had an interesting talk about her adoption. I asked her where she was born. She said China. She knows that babies come from a mommy's tummy because she watches Discovery Health a lot. I told her that I couldn't grow a baby in my tummy so we went to China to bring her home. I told her that she grew in a Chinese mommy's tummy. She asked me, "So what is her name?" It broke my heart to tell her that we don't know. I told her that in China a family can only have one child and that is possibly why her Chinese mommy couldn't take care of her. I told her that we asked China if we could bring her home and China said yes, so we got on a big airplane and brought her home. She seemed ok with that reasoning, and fell asleep. I don't know if I worded everything the way it should be, but by discussing this with her at an early age we are planting the seed and she will know how we became a family and will feel free to ask us any questions.

There is always loss involved in adoption. I think it's wonderful that you are sensitive to the loss her birthfamily experienced. It sounds like you handled the conversation beautifully. Your daughters are soooooo blessed to have you as their mommy!!!!!!!

How's your dad doing? Have his treatments started yet?
