Bad News

The good news...the couple who looked at our house on Saturday and then went again on Sunday with their parents made us an offer on our house.

The bad news...the offer was so horrendously low. I understand how cruddy the housing market is, I really do, but this offer was almost $25,000 less than our asking price. Our house is priced at $198,500 and they made a $175,000 offer. We counter-offered at $187,500 which is midpoint between their offer and our asking price.

We gave them until midnight to respond. They responded by saying that they reject our $187,500 offer and will not go above their $175K offer.

I am very upset. Why didn't they originally state that their $175K offer was firm, instead of wasting our time? The husband said that he feels our house needs new windows. Is he high? Our house is 8 years old, there is no way it needs new windows. And let's suppose it does need new windows...that wouldn't be more than $5,000 or so. And even at $187k they'd still be getting a good deal.

I feel like these people were just yanking our chain. If they were truly serious they would be willing to negotiate. They are living in an apartment, so let them continue to throw away money on rent. The wife is pregnant....let her see how awful it is to live in a small apartment and climb stairs with a newborn.

So, for now we'll continue to keep our house on the market and hope that a serious buyer comes along.
