So today was a strange day.
It started off with me working. Around 10 a.m. Steve called me on my cell phone. A friend of his is a realtor and called Steve to tell him about a house that is for sale.
The reason he called Steve is because the house in located on the street where we bought 2 acres. We bought the 2-acre lot a few years ago and planned to build on it, but with the crappy market we've not done anything yet.
So, the realtor (Brett) tells Steve that there is a 2,300 square foot house that is in foreclosure on this street. The street is rather small, maybe 20 houses max, and all the houses are expensive, so our curiousity was peaked.
Steve picked me up at work around 1:30 to meet with Brett and see the house. The house is across the street from our lot! It's a gorgeous house, huge, 3 bedrooms and a finished basement. The kitchen even has a fireplace (and there's two other fireplaces throughout the house). Three-car garage, beautiful hardwood floors, and sits on one acre.
Here's the kicker....back in 2005 the house sold for $461,000 and now it's being listed at $222,000! What a steal.
We put a bid in for $215,000.
I fully anticipate us NOT getting the house though. There is already one other party who made an offer and went again to the house tonight to take another look. We should know by tomorrow at 9 a.m.
The house is gorgeous, but the paint colors are hideous. Whoever lived there before loved faux painting...almost every room is faux painted in horrible colors. If we get the house we will need to paint every square inch of the walls. We would also replace the kitchen counters with granite, and change the flooring in the girls' bathroom. And get all new appliances for the kitchen. The stove is pretty grungy, as is the oven and dishwasher, plus they look old and dated.
Besides that, the house is pretty much "move-in ready."
It's exciting, but again, I don't think we'll get it. If we do, great. If not, I'm ok with that too, as we live in a nice house.
