Wild Goose Chase

This weekend I went on a wild goose chase.

For Christmas my father is buying Kylie a Fisher Price Loving Family dollhouse (see photo). The dollhouse is all she's been talking about (with the exception of an American Girl doll). My dad went to Target, who does not even carry this dollhouse. He found one at Toys R Us and grabbed the last one. Great.

The problem is that the house only comes with a kitchen table, the people and an outdoor set (bbq grill, swingset and slide). It's a large, 3-story house, and yet comes practically unfurnished. You have to go out and buy all the furniture. I didn't want my dad to buy the furniture, as he's already spent quite a bit of money on the girls' presents, so that left me to buy the furniture.

I've been to 3 Walmarts (blech!), Target, Meier, K-Mart and Biggs. No luck. They were out of all the furniture. I tried one Toys R Us and they too were out of stock. On Saturday my friend Lisa and I went on a quest to find furniture. We couldn't give Kylie a dollhouse with no furniture. Finally, at another Toys R Us we found several of the furniture items. I bought the living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry room, parents bedroom and childs bedroom. The only items I couldn't find were the bathroom and the nursery. The nursery is impossible to find. Even the Fisher Price website doesn't carry the nursery, which is a shame because Kylie loves playing the the babies and she would love the nursery.

The downside is the price. Each room ranges in price from $11.99 to $19.99!!! And buying 6 rooms of furniture....well, you can understand. I spent more money on the furniture than the cost of the actual dollhouse! Ugh! I am so tired of spending money. I'm excited to see her reaction, I know she'll be thrilled. I need to keep reminding myself of that and stop focusing on the prices.
