Thursday - Miscellaneous

Today my back was worse than it was yesterday or the day before. It's very sore now, I am hobbling around like an old person. Advil is not helping nor is the heating pad. I did put some Icy Hot cream on my back. When I went to pick the girls up from school, Kylie could smell it and asked what smelled like bubble gum, lol!

I've been reading an interesting book from the library called "The Ultimate Cheapskate's Road Map To True Riches" by Jeff Yeager. Some of his ideas are a little extreme. He challenges you to go an entire week without buying anything- food, gas, clothes, etc. I can go a week without buying clothes, but I cannot go an entire week without filling up my van. I decided our family would try to go an entire week without eating out. Well, except for Steve's lunches. Steve is the type of guy who absolutely refuses to "brown bag" it at lunchtime. He must go out every single day for lunch, but I decided we'd go an entire week without eating out for dinner.

Here's what I've made for dinner this week:

Monday-- Fajitas
Tuesday-- Breakfast for dinner (eggs, biscuits and fresh fruit)
Wednesday--Spaghetti w/ meatballs, garlic bread
Thursday-- Chicken marsala, sour cream & chive mashed potates, corn

Tomorrow I'm not sure what I'm making for dinner. I may just end up putting a frozen pizza in the oven and having a tossed salad on the side.

Since reading this book I've noticed this week that I really haven't bought anything. I did buy gas, even though I didn't desperately need it. It was $3.49 a gallon when I bought it and I am so glad I did because a few hours later the price jumped .30 to $3.79/gallon. The only other things I've spent money on were daycare, the utility bill, an oil change for my car, a bottle of Advil for my back, and $1 for a pack of 3 Care Bear toothbrushes for the girls. I have yet to go to the grocery store. I've been cleaning out the food pantry in our basement and eating up some of that stuff. I'll need to go to the grocery store in the next few days, as we are almost out of milk, juice and bread.

Other misc stuff: Sophie is trying new foods!!! I am so excited by this. Kylie has always tried new foods and likes just about anything. She's tried stuff that I wouldn't even try, like a Chinese tofu dish and a Chinese fish dinner. Sophie, on the other hand, has been picky from day one. She's never liked corn, except if it's on the cob she will eat a bite. Tonight Kylie wanted corn, and all we had was a bag of frozen corn. I made some, and put a spoonful onto Sophie's plate. I was fully expecting Sophie to not eat it, but she did. And not only did she eat it, she said, "Yummmm" and asked for more! Earlier in the week I made Kylie a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast and Sophie said she wanted one. I made her half a sandwich and she ate almost all of it!

So sorry to hear about your back. Hope you're feeling better soon!!! That's great that Sophie is eating a wider variety of foods lately. Corn is sooo yummy IMHO! :-) Kylie sounds braver than I as far as trying new foods out.

As for the two "babies" parenting definitely requires a sense of humor!!! Brushing the "hair" of a sippy cup, LOL! :-) You're a great mom!!!
