Friday

Today was hot and muggy with no breeze in sight. The heat just drapes over you like a blanket. We stayed indoors during the day. We met our friend Nina for lunch. It's weird how our family met Nina. One day Steve and I were at Home Depot with Big Sis (this was before Little Sis came into the picture). We were waiting in line and an older couple approached us and commented on how pretty Big Sis is. To be honest, we get comments like this from strangers on a daily basis so we thought nothing of it. Then they told us that they have two children that they adopted from Korea, a boy and a girl. Both kids work at McDonald's. It was then that I remembered seeing an Asian girl behind the counter at McDonald's but at the time I thought she was Chinese. The couple was just beaming as they told us about their son and daughter. The next time we went to McDonald's we saw the daughter, Nina and introduced ourselves. She already knew of us from her parents.

We would see her and her brother at McDonald's a few times a month. Big Sis especially grew fond of Nina and vice versa. Nina is going to the university to study plastic surgery. We tease her all the time because she looks and acts exactly like Christina (Sandra Oh) on Grey's Anatomy. Nina babysits for us occasionally too. She no longer works at McDonald's, but she works at another local store so we get to see her on a weekly basis.

Today at lunch we had a breakthrough. Ever since we brought Little Sis home, she has been very skittish of Nina. Won't look her in the eyes, won't let her hold her or even touch her. But today when I told Little Sis that we were meeting Nina for lunch, she said, "Yay, Nina!" And then as soon as we got to McDonald's, Little Sis called out, "Nina! Nina! Nina!" She was very excited to see Nina. And at the end of the lunch, she ran over to Nina, gave her a hug and puckered her lips for a kiss :)

After lunch we had a long nap and then had to get ready for tae kwon do. After dinner we played with the bubble machine, painted on the sidewalk, and played in the pool. By 10 pm both girls were bathed and in their beds asleep.
