"Real" Sisters

Sometimes I am asked by strangers, "Are they real sisters?"
How do you answer such a question? They squabble like typical sisters do, and one minute later they are hugging and playfully chasing each other around the house.
As soon as Little Sis wakes up in the morning she asks for Big Sis. And when we pick Big Sis up from preschool, her eyes light up when she sees Little Sis.
So when people ask if they are "real" sisters, the only answer is....of course!

Since when were the words "biological" and "real" synonyms??? That is soooo annoying I am sure... just as frustrating as anyone who might dare say "real mother" in the same manner. GRRRRR! They are definitely REALLY sisters and it's not appropriate IMHO for strangers to ask whether or not they are biologically related!! Is there anything private these days???

Your girls are SO adorable!!!!

And I hate it when people say things like this. The most recent ignorant comment I've gotten about Elizabeth was "Oh, she was born in China? So, is she FULL Chinese?" Huh????????????

Questions like that are really annoying. I think most people who ask those questions are curious, but don't know what to say. Most of the time, people leave us alone. However, we live in a school district with a lot of low income people who aren't exposed to international or interacial adotion as much as other circles we run in. Last night, we had a school fund raiser and boy did Candace stir things up. It was like most had never seen a caucasian family with a Chinese American daughter before. I guess they don't make it to our mall very often. It is a common thing to see there. Thankfully, they just did a lot of staring, and didn't ask questions.
