"Same old, same old"

Big Sis occasionally will say, out of the blue, "Same old, same old." Not sure where she heard this saying, but today was one of those "same old, same old" days. I really wasn't in the Valentine's Day mood, for several reasons:

1. Little Sis: last night she decided to stay awake from 1-6 a.m. I intially tried giving her a bottle, hoping it's warmth would get her to sleep. Nope, she didn't want the bottle. I tried laying with her in her room, again hoping to lull her back to sleep. Nope, she was wide awake. I took her downstairs and put in an Elmo dvd. She wanted to play. She got in the toy box, took out a Dora doll and started singing the theme song to Dora. She then came over to me and said, "Hungry, hungry, hot dog." I opened up the fridge, heated up a hotdog and gave it to her, again hoping she'd fall asleep afterwards. Wrong! She ended up eating 2 hotdogs, some leftover potato romanoff and a handful of goldfish crackers.

By now it's 4 a.m. and you'd think Little Sis would be tuckered out and ready to go back to sleep, right? Nope. I laid her in her crib, went to my bedroom, shut the door and put a pillow over my head. And after all that I could still hear her screaming hysterically. Hubby got her and laid with her on the floor until she finally fell asleep around 6 a.m.

You can imagine how miserably exhausted I was all day. Luckily Big Sis was in school, so at least I only had one child at home today.

2. I think Valentine's Day is a highly commercialized, highly overrated holiday. I don't think I have a romantic bone in my body. I don't want flowers; they are expensive and die after a few days, plus our cat likes to eat them and later puke them up. Lovely. I also don't want chocolates or lingerie that I'll never wear, or candles or any of that other stuff. Restaurants are overcrowded on Valentine's Day, so eating out is not an option. Hubby gave me a great Valentine's Gift this year...he drove Big Sis to school today so I didn't have to wake up Little Sis and load her into the car on this chilly day. My gift to Hubby? I made photocopies of our adoption receipts so we can give them to our accountant and eventually get our $10K adoption credit. Hubby has been on my case for awhile to get this done, so today my tired butt went to the basement, found the receipts and made copies. Not the most romantic gifts, but I was glad not to go out in the cold to drop off Big Sis.

We're going out on Sunday night to dinner, WOTG (without the girls).
