On the morning of Friday January 8th my dad passed away after a nearly 2-year battle with cancer. He died 6 days before his 66th birthday. We were able to visit him and say goodbye to him two days before he died. I am so glad we had that chance. The past two years we did a lot for and with my dad-- going out to dinner, making his favorite potato oatmeal bread, taking him to a Bengals football game in November-- and yet I wish we could have done more.
The funeral was nice and my dad would have been impressed with how many people showed up. People he worked with 20 years ago came, old friends from college came, and my stepmom's nephew even drove 12 hours from Louisiana! The chaplain said he had never met anyone as courageous as my father. He said my dad faced death with strength and dignity.
Kylie & Sophie did remarkably well at the funeral, especially considering we were there for four hours. They both touched the urn and told their Papa Paul goodbye. Even Sophie's stuffed turtle PetShoppy had a chance to say goodbye.
I miss you, Dad.
