Kylie turns 6 at the end of this month. I've thought long and hard about what to get her. For some reason all the other kids around us have tons of toys. The neighbors next to us have a 5 year old daughter and 9 year old son and their rooms are crammed with toys. Same with the people who live next to them. Their 12 year old has so many toys that she keeps giving them to Kylie.
I personally don't understand it. Don't get me wrong, Kylie and Sophie have toys, but not so many that it is overwhelming. Some kids have so many toys that they don't know what to play with and end up bored. And the cost of these toys...how do parents do it? Toys aren't cheap, especially when the child has so many toys that you literally can't see the carpet in their room.
I've struggled with what to get Kylie for her birthday. This year will not be a big affair. As for presents, I bought her 2 games for her Nintendo DS (on sale for half the price at Big Lots), and will probably buy her some Legos. She plays with Legos at school and I loved Legos when I was her age, so Legos it will be. Oh, and she wants a pair of Adidas pants like what Sophie has, so I'll buy her a pair...and that's it. Fortunately, I know Kylie will love all the presents she gets.
This year, rather than having a big party at Chuck E. Cheese, she is going to invite her friend Mialani to go to the Aquarium with us, followed by lunch at Johnny Rockets and then some video games at GameWorks. This year we're getting a Dairy Queen ice cream cake-- she chose the Barbie Mariposa one with pink icing.

Thanks for the compliments. It's easy to be a good grandma, they make it so much fun. I had a wonderful time with them last weekend and, of course, with you.
BTW, Sophie left her baby acorns in the downstairs family room (in case she is asking about them).
Love, NaiNai
