Doctors & Dentists

The past 14 days are a blur of doctors and dentist appointments.

Two weeks ago Kylie & Sophie had their dentist appointments. Steve took them, as I was at work. No cavities, their teeth look great. My anal retentiveness about oral hygiene has paid off.

Then last week I went to a new dentist. The last dentist I went to was last year and he tried to tell me I needed braces. Uh...don't think so. I had braces when I was 11 years old until I was almost 14, and my teeth are not crooked. The same dentist tried to sell Steve a $500 tooth-whitening system, so I knew it was time to never return to this guy.

The new dentist took x-rays and examined my teeth and gums. He announced that I have a cavity on my upper left side of my mouth. This will be my 3rd cavity in my life. I will get it filled in a few weeks.

On Monday I broke down and called Kylie's pediatrician to get a recommendation for an allergy/asthma specialist. For the past month Kylie has had an awful cough, particularly horrible at night. She coughs so much that she vomits. The allergy/asthma specialist was able to fit Kylie in on the following day. He listened to her lungs and had us get a chest x-ray. He also did a breathing test on Wednesday and concluded that she has asthma, which is what I figured. She's on Singulair pills and an inhaler. Once she used the inhaler, her breathing improved 35% according to the breathing test.

Today I had to take Steve to the local hospital for his colonoscopy. He had trouble going to sleep so they gave him more anethesia than normal. He slept a long time afterwards. We were there almost 4 hours! I was so ready to get out, and Steve was so ready for food-- as he had fasted for the past 36 hours. (No problem regarding the colonoscopy, thank God).

I think we're done with doctors and dentists for awhile.

Hopefully Kylie will grow out of the asthma. I had it as a child but outgrew it when I was a teenager.
