Finger Guards

Since day one, Kylie and Sophie both have a bad habit of sucking on their middle and ring fingers of their left hands. Strange that they both suck on the same fingers of the same hand. They've always done it. When Kylie was around 4 we started to start getting her to stop. We know it's not good for their permanent teeth (which luckily Kylie still doesn't have yet) plus the germ factor. Kylie mainly did it when she was in the car, tired, or in her sleep. At night we would put a sock on her hand-- only to find the sock on the floor next to her bed in the morning.

A few weeks ago I ordered a plastic fingerguard (www.thumbguard.com) for Kylie. It is a clear plastic piece with two fingers that secures with plastic bracelets. I ordered extra bracelets and it was quite pricey, with the guard, bracelets and shipping coming to $110. But desperate times call for desperate measures. Kylie was actually excited, because the bracelets come in many colors and each night she gets to pick out what color she wants.

Kylie's been doing remarkably well with her new fingerguard. Even the blisters on her sucking fingers are starting to go away. I decided to order one for Sophie.

Sophie will not sleep with the guard on her hand. Simply won't. She will wear it in the car and when we're out doing errands but refuses to wear it while sleeping. So, the guard is helping a little but not as much as I was hoping :(

Here's a photo of Sophie wearing her finger guard:
