We did a lot of work in this room too. The kitchen was missing the fridge and microwave when we bought the house. The white oven, cooktop and dishwasher were caked with food, so we replaced all the appliances with stainless steel ones.
I replaced the light over the kitchen table and replaced some of the cabinet handles. The laminate counters were replaced with granite.
The entire kitchen was painted a glossy red color that overwhelmed the room. We painted the walls a golden color to complement the granite.
