Buying and furnishing a house is not cheap!!!!
Tonight we browsed Home Depot again. Specifically we were looking for a new fridge, oven, countertop stove, dishwasher and microwave in stainless steel. The oven and microwave are built-in.
The squatter who was living in our new house took the microwave with him, and now I know why. It was a built-in microwave, and only Jenn Air makes them. Not only do you have to buy the microwave at $650, but you also have to buy a "trim kit" for $120. That's basically $800 for a microwave!!!! Unbelievable.
We're going to check Lowes and other stores too. I think Home Depot is pricier than Lowes on many items.
On a positive note, when we were at Home Depot tonight, I found the kitchen faucet I've been wanting, and it was $15 less than a website I almost ordered it from.

Our built in microwave is a kitchen aid, which was also pricy. (I just asked Matt how much it cost, and I am too ashamed to tell you.) We got an convection microwave, and it didn't need a trim kit. GE also makes a really nice stainless built in microwave. We bought our appliances at HHGregg. I don't know if you have one of those around you. It will really help you on the cost if you can figure out how to get a builder discount or if you can buy them using a repair man's account number.
