Wednesday

This is the first chance I've had to post. Monday morning Steve announced that our computer had a virus. He took the laptop to his office to have his IT guy look at it. It turns out that the computer had several viruses on it. We used to have Norton to prevent viruses, but it expired and we forgot to renew it...oops! I was without a computer for three whole days and it was difficult for me! I actually went to the library all three days so that I could use the internet.

I now really love Kylie' hair. It took me a few days to get used to it, but it does look cute and frames her face well. I cut a little bit so that she has thicker bangs. I'll take a photo and post it this week.

This has been a somewhat difficult week for me. I've been actively job-hunting for a few weeks. Staying at home is starting to wear on me. Both girls are in school Tuesday and Thursday, which means I spend those days cleaning the house and grocery shopping. It's getting old. Being a stay at home mom is sometimes not all it's cracked up to be. I'm very grateful that I was able to spend one-on-one time with my girls for an entire year, but I also need to be around people more. I had briefly joined a mothers group last year but it was pretty lame. I don't want to spend my free time discussing vaccinations, diaper brands, coupons and casseroles! And the moms were very gossipy...not my thing.

So, in the past three weeks I've sent probably resumes to probably a dozen companies. One called me, a local insurance agency, and offered me a job making $8 an hour. That doesn't even cover the cost of daycare! I sent my resume to Proctor & Gamble. They make everything from Pantene to Pampers and are huge around here. I sent my resume for 3 different positions at P & G. They emailed me today and said they don't feel I am qualified and that I can apply after 12 months. It was a form letter. Actually, I am probably overqualified because the positions were for an admin assistant (a.k.a. secretary).

When I got the email from P & G I was pretty hurt. It was a form letter (email) and didn't really state why I wasn't considered for the job. I spent the last 11 years working as a claims adjuster, settling half million dollar losses, participated in depositions, earned several important industry designations and yet I'm not qualified to answer a phone or use a fax machine?!

After I cooled down a bit, I realized that this may be a blessing in disguise. Kylie will be starting kindergarten next year. The kindergarten here is only a half a day, so I need to be home to take her back and forth (we live too close to the school so they don't have buses, yet it's too far for her to walk to it). If I was working full-time we'd have to find a place where she could go before and after school, as well as taking Sophie to daycare full-time. And if I was working at P & G I'd have to take the bus again downtown, which is a PITA (pain in the a$$). So, all in all, I'm not losing any sleep over this.

There are still about 6 different companies I haven't heard back from, but apparently this is the norm now. I've talked to several people who had the same experience....send out resumes and get no reply. Or go to an interview and never hear back. I think it's pretty rude, I mean all a company needs to do is send a form letter. At least P & G did that.

That's about all that's happened in the last few days. I'll try to take some photos later this week and post them.
