- Our garage sale was a success. We made over $500. It was a lot of work, though, and I don't know if I would do it in the future. I've learned that the older I get, the less patience I have for stupid people. Garage sales bring out the weirdos, they really do. I was selling an iron (clothes iron) for $1. It was my husband's from before we married. He doesn't know what an iron is, much less how to operate one, so I'm pretty sure it was never used. An elderly woman walks over to the iron and asks me if it works. I tell her yes (why would I sell a broken one??). She says that she's been looking for an iron and maybe she should buy it. But, she says, she is worried it doesn't work. I keep assuring her that it works. Her friend is even telling her to buy it. She hem-haws about it for five minutes before finally saying, "Well, ok, I guess I can try it out." What the heck?! It's $1!!! Live a little, lady. Take a chance.
- It has been cold, rainy and damp here the entire week. Like 50 degrees, which is crazy in May. The grass is wet enough that the girls cannot play on their swingset.
- American Idol is over for this season. That is one of the few shows that our entire family enjoys watching together. Big Sis especially loved David Archuletta, I think partially because she liked saying his last name. Another show that Big Sis and I love is Hell's Kitchen. She likes it when the contestants get hurt. Last week one of the guys sliced off the tip of his fingertip and she loved it. I know, she's a weirdo, just like me.
- The in-laws are in town right now. Steve's aunt's stepson is graduating from high school. Steve's aunt is throwing a huge two-day party. Tonight was the actual graduation ceremony at the high school. Afterwards, she rented an entire restaurant for a dinner buffet. Tomorrow she rented out BB Riverboats for two hours for a luncheon, and then dinner and drinks at the country club at 6:30. And all of this is just for a high school graduation! Must be nice to have a lot of money ;)
- I haven't really posted anything about my father on this blog until now. Back in February my father was diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer. He did two months of chemo and radiation, finishing up his last time two weeks ago. Not surprisingly, he did not do well with the treatment. He got sores in his mouth, lost 22 pounds (he's not a large person to begin with) and had a lot of nausea. The past few days he has been feeling much better, partially because he's done with the chemo and radiation and partially because he switched oncologist and surgeon. His previous oncologist would make him wait 2+ hours each weekly visit, and would confuse his file with other patients' files. Scary. So my dad found a different oncologist, and he is very pleased with her. He also switched surgeons because the new surgeon specializes in cancer surgery. His surgery is scheduled for the 1st week in July. He will be in the hospital at least 7-10 days. I pray that everything goes well. Big Sis is so sweet. Every night when she says her prayers she says a prayer for "Papa Paul." We didn't explain the cancer to her, all we said is that he's not feeling well and has a tummy ache. At night she prays, "Dear Jesus, please watch over Papa Paul, he's not feeling well, he's a picky eater and he has diarrhea. Amen." We never said anything to her about diarrhea, but I guess she associates a "tummy ache" with diarrhea. She's a character.
I sure hope I can find my camera soon!

Wow $500 sounds great to make at a yard sale, but I've never had one before so maybe that's not as high as it seems to me. :-)
Hopefully the weather will warm up again soon where you are. It got cold here also (and rainy) but then was pretty yesterday and again today and is supposed to keep getting warmer (I think even the 80's by Monday!). I hope you guys have a nice Memorial Day weekend. I'll keep praying for your dad. I hope his surgery goes well. It must be a major one for them to keep him that long as they send everyone home ASAP it seems these days.
